Serving the Hudson Valley
June 2023
Team,
As warmer weather finally arrives, I’m looking forward to spending some quality time in our community during the extended summer district work period. I know plans are underway for parades, barbecues, and county fairs — I’m eager to enjoy it all. From Pride celebrations and Juneteenth to all of the festivities around the 4th and a little bit of baseball (let’s go Renegades!), we have a lot of great community events coming up.
Even more importantly, I am excited to have the opportunity to meet with you in person. To share all we’ve been able to accomplish and to highlight all we have left to do.
The last few months have been remarkably busy. I hope we have the chance to catch up soon, until then, read on to see some of the highlights.

Cam and I had the honor of joining Moms Demand Action Hudson Valley for their #WearOrange weekend send-off. Our amazing local chapter joined thousands nationwide to rally for gun violence prevention and awareness.

Members of the Indivisible Ulster chapter made my day by sending me this picture! I do this work for them and would not be here without their endless support.

The Hudson Valley has long served as the xxxxxx in our country’s major battles for freedom and democracy. It’s incredibly powerful to stand shoulder to shoulder with patriots to honor those who gave all, and our solemn commitment to live our lives in a way that honors their sacrifice.

A meaningful holiday
I joined my veteran colleagues in Congress to help clean the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC. Hearing their stories, sharing some of my own, and having the opportunity to experience it with my West Point classmate, Congressman John James, was an honor.

Memorial Day is a moment to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. From those who lost their lives on the battlefield to those who succumbed to the anguish and invisible wounds of serving in combat upon returning home to the U.S., we owe an immense amount of gratitude and respect to our fallen heroes. On this and each Memorial Day, my thoughts are with those I had the honor to serve alongside. From West Point classmates to fellow Fighting Eagles — friends who gave all, like Sgt. Keith Nowicki and Maj. Brian Kavanagh.

2023 West Point Commencement
19 years ago, I walked across the stage at Michie Stadium to secure my own diploma; now, watching a new generation of cadets join the long gray line, one that I’m a part of, as both their peer and Member of Congress, it’s a moment I won’t ever forget. Congratulations graduates!

Congressman hosts Service Academy information workshop
“Our military is also one of our most diverse institutions. My goal is to develop an officer corps that reflects that same diversity. Ryan attacks far-right cuts to veterans’ services
“Ryan, a West Point graduate and Iraq combat veteran who resides in Gardiner, said that the most sacred obligation that members of the United States armed forces learned was to leave no one behind, The Republican 2023-24 budget proposals, he said, left behind those who had put their lives at risk for their country.”

My town hall in Kingston
Being a representative means showing up and listening to voters — and that’s exactly what I did on Sunday at Congregation Emanuel in Kingston. It was great to hear from folks in the Hudson Valley about what’s top of mind, and I always appreciate being able to explain the work we’re doing in Washington to serve our community. Read more about the town hall here, and stay tuned for more events in our district! [[link removed]] [[link removed]]
