Hundreds of thousands of Americans experience homelessness every year, and it can be impossible for them to find shelters that allow their companion animals. Most often, this leads to people choosing to remain on the streets rather than accept shelter and access to critical services. Alternatively, the lack of pet-friendly shelters forces people to make the devastating decision to give up their beloved pets, who are sometimes a person’s only source of comfort and stability during hard times. Separated from the only people they knew and loved, pets face uncertain futures, too.
