John -

Amidst all of the fear and despair we’re feeling, we are immensely proud
to know and stand with everyone in our climate movement.

This past Thursday, hundreds of climate activists from across the US and
frontline Appalachian activists braved the wildfire smoke to send an
urgent message to President Biden on his own doorstep, calling on him to
stop the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

It could not have been a more poignant — and profoundly jarring — start to
the People vs. Fossil Fuels Coalition’s Week of Action calling on Biden to
end the era of fossil fuels.

This sense of empowerment we’re feeling is also coinciding with so much
rage and grief. We’ve had many people in our movement asking us what comes
next after these June actions, and how we can ensure that Biden hears —
and responds — to our demands.

This is why we’re so excited to share that on June 15th, actress and
activist Jane Fonda will be joining a special coalition-wide call to tell
you about our next steps — including sharing the details for the upcoming
March to End Fossil Fuels.

Thursday’s protest made headlines, with major coverage in the

McKibben titled “Looking at the White House through Wildfire Smoke.”

Leaders from outside Appalachia joined in solidarity with the protest to
#StopMVP, including Representative Rashida Tlaib, who had this to say:

“We have a right to breathe clean air.” “How many more times you got to
study this? I’m tired of getting studied, y’all. I’m tired of them coming
back and saying ‘You’re right. Black and Brown communities on the front
lines are literally dying.’”

Like Appalachia, Detroit (which is represented by Tlaib) is another one of
many regions that have been dismissed as sacrifice zones for far too long.
Her words show that our fights are all connected, and climate change is
happening here and now.

That’s why we and our climate movement partners are taking action
throughout the summer and into the fall, leading up to the UN Climate
Ambition Summit.

[ [link removed] ]The next step for our movement to end the era of fossil fuels is to
rally together and strategize during our call on June 15. Can we count on
you to join us?
