<[link removed]>Help replace Menendez as Chair of Senate Foreign Relations!

<[link removed]>ACT NOW! <[link removed]>

Dear John,

It's about time someone said it - enough is enough with Senator Bob Menendez's endless cycle of embarrassments to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and to our country.  Menendez must step down from the Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and be replaced by someone who prioritizes peace and diplomacy. This powerful position has a significant impact on our country's foreign policy and national security decisions, and we believe that  Menendez's hawkish positions towards Cuba and ethics concerns make him unfit for this critical role. Join our call for the Replacement of Senator Menendez as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee <[link removed]>

Menendez’s corruption is not new. In 2018, the Senate Ethics Committee concluded that the Senator had knowingly accepted numerous illicit gifts of substantial worth over a span of six years from Dr. Salomon Melgen, an ophthalmologist convicted of Medicare fraud. This prompted the Committee to declare that his behavior "broke Senate Rules and pertinent laws, and brought shame to the Senate", and that he was therefore "sternly warned" and told to repay the gifts he had received from Dr. Melgen.

Recently, investigations have unearthed the possibility of the Senator and his spouse having accepted items of value from the operators of a halal food enterprise in exchange for privileged access to Egypt. Many Democrats have reported being afraid of speaking out of fear of retaliation by Menendez, who is known to be vengeful. Tell Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer that it is unacceptable to have a Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with such questionable friends and principles. <[link removed]>

But this is not the only issue that concerns us.

Menendez's actions towards Cuba are simply unacceptable. He leverages his Cuban heritage and influential role as chairman of the Senate Committee to block any efforts towards normalization of relations with Cuba. Menendez has been staunchly supportive of continuing the trade embargo and travel prohibition. This contradicts the popular opinion of lifting these restrictions and our national interest in establishing peaceful and productive relations with our  neighboring country. In May of this year, 21 House Democrats wrote to President Joe Biden to reverse the punitive sanctions imposed on Cuba and Venezuela, understanding that these measures had escalated the number of immigrants flooding to America's borders. Unfortunately, Menendez staunchly rejected their demands, insisting that US sanctions are not at fault for the crippling financial circumstances in Cuba and Venezuela, even though most agree that the debilitating effects of sanctions -- unemployment, death, and despair -- are crushing these countries.

Let's be clear, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee should not be led by someone with questionable ethics and hawkish positions. We need a Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee who will take this position with strong moral character, peaceful policies, and inspiring insight. Someone who recognizes the imperative of world cooperation and being a good neighbor. Tell Senator Schumer to replace Senator Menendez as Chair! <[link removed]>

Onwards to Peace,

Medea, Michelle, Samantha, Teri and Ysa
