Gov. Justice holds groundbreaking ceremony for section of Corridor H in Tucker County

Gov. Jim Justice joined West Virginia Department of Transportation officials for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of work on Section 3 of the Kerens to Parsons project on Appalachian Corridor H (U.S. Route 48).

“I can tell everyone here one thing,” Gov. Justice said. “My goal is for ALL of Corridor H to be under contract before I leave office. We’re going to finish this road.”

The successful bid of $49,488,494 was made by A.L.L. Construction Inc. of Mount Storm.

Work will consist of grading and drainage work on an approximately three-mile section of Corridor beginning near the Cheat River Bridge, which is currently under construction. At 3,300 feet, the Cheat River Bridge will be among the longest bridges in West Virginia when completed.

The four-lane bridge will link the 15-mile stretch of Corridor H between Kerens and Parsons with the section between Parsons and Davis.

Gov. Justice announces Clean Vision Corporation to invest $50 million, build facility in Kanawha County

Gov. Justice announced that Clean Vision Corporation (Clean Vision) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between its Clean-Seas West Virginia subsidiary and the West Virginia Department of Economic Development (WVDED).

This collaboration will leverage a $50 million total investment in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, focused on converting plastic feedstock into precursors for recycled content plastics and clean fuels, including hydrogen.

Upon completion of construction and commencement of operations, the facility, located in Quincy in eastern Kanawha County, will process plastic for conversion to clean energy at a rate of 100 tons per day, starting in 2024, with plans to scale up to 500 tons per day over time.

Gov. Justice announces over $18 million in grant funding for broadband improvement projects across West Virginia

Gov. Justice announced the preliminary approval of more than $18 million for various broadband infrastructure projects throughout the state.

This announcement includes applications received under the programs Line Extension Advancement and Development (LEAD), Major Broadband Project Strategies (MBPS), and Wireless Internet Networks (WIN).

The programs are branches of Gov. Justice’s Billion-Dollar Broadband Strategy ([link removed]) – a plan to invest over $1 billion in state and federal funds to make broadband connectivity available for the first time to 200,000 West Virginia homes and businesses.

Gov. Justice announces broadband advancements, partnerships, and expansion opportunities throughout West Virginia

Gov. Justice announced the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) latest update to the National Broadband Map will mean the opportunity for broadband funding for an additional 80,700 unserved and underserved locations in West Virginia.

“West Virginia should be proud of how it pulled the rope together to update this data,” Gov. Justice said. “This update means access to more Federal dollars for West Virginia to build and deploy broadband to those that need it.”

The most recent update to the FCC map expands eligibility to 271,000 unserved locations in West Virginia, an increase of more than 80,700 locations now eligible for broadband funding. The allocation formula is based upon the number of unserved locations by state, and other demographic factors.

Gov. Justice announces West Virginia Community Corrections Grant funds worth $5.4 million for 30 projects

Gov. Justice announced that he has awarded $5,472,061 in West Virginia Community Corrections Grant program funds to 30 projects.

These funds will assist local communities in establishing and continuing operation of community corrections programs.

The West Virginia Community Corrections Grant Program is intended to provide a means for communities to develop, establish, and maintain community-based corrections programs to provide the judicial system with sentencing alternatives for those offenders who may require less than institutional custody.

These funds are administered by the Justice and Community Services (JCS) Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services (DAS).

Gov. Justice announces West Virginia Child Advocacy Center Grant funds worth $2.1 million for over 20 projects

Gov. Justice announced that he has awarded $2,118,686 million in West Virginia Child Advocacy Center (CAC) Grant program funds to 22 projects.

These funds are given to local non-profit CACs throughout the state to address the growing problem of child abuse and neglect.

These awards are focused on a multi-disciplinary response to the investigation, treatment, and prosecution of child abuse cases by providing such services as advocacy, education, forensic interviews, evaluations, and referrals.

Gov. Justice appointed Diana Winzenreid to the West Virginia House of Delegates 4th District which covers part of Ohio County.

Winzenreid fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Erikka Storch who left last month for a private-sector opportunity. Winzenreid will serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
