The former President’s latest indictment is a powerful reminder that no one is above the law. But this indictment – nor any past or future ones – does not change the fact that he is the presumptive Republican nominee for President and the leader of a movement representing a real and growing threat to our democracy.
Let’s be clear, if Trump is the nominee, the Republican party and Republican apparatus will support him, whether he’s been indicted or not. They continue to support him, from the January 6th insurrection to his multiple indictments and investigations.
That’s why it’s up to us, and not the courts, to stand up to would-be-tyrants. Because our democracy is only as strong as our collective conviction to fight for it. Every day.
