Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Last November, I put out a call to action: I asked our community to submit your big ideas and I asked for talented, passionate people who care about DC to apply to work at DC Government. Since then, so many of you have answered our call. You have shared your big ideas at community meetings, events, and at together.dc.gov [ [link removed] ].?You've also joined us at career fairs, submitted your resumes, and added your information to our talent bank [ [link removed] ].

In the past few months, we've added incredible talent at all levels of government. There are many benefits to working in public service, especially in Washington, DC where our government functions as a city, county, and state. One of the greatest benefits is being surrounded by people who care deeply about their work, who have diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and who push themselves every day to deliver for our city. In just the past two months, I've been privileged to add many incredible leaders to my team, including leaders at DC Health, the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services [ [link removed] ], the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services, the DC Department of Human Resources [ [link removed] ]?(DCHR), the Department of Energy and Environment [ [link removed] ], the?Criminal Justice Coordinating Council [ [link removed] ], and?the Department of Buildings [ [link removed] ].

ICYMI: Trash Pick Up Slide

On Thursday, June 8, the District suspended some non-essential government services during the Code Purple air quality alert. Due to the suspension of services, trash pick up for Friday and Saturday is sliding a day. Trash that was not picked up on Thursday is being picked up today, Friday, June 9. Trash that is normally picked up on Friday is being picked up on Saturday, June 10. On Monday, the normal trash schedule will resume.?

Apply for the School Year Internship Program by July 1
SYIP

District youth between the ages of 14 and 21 are invited to apply for the 4th annual School Year Internship Program. The program offers youth work-based learning opportunities during the school year. Through the program, young people have the opportunity to earn money, learn and develop the skills, attitude, and commitment needed for success in today?s workforce, and gain exposure to exciting career industries.?

The application is currently open and the deadline to apply is Saturday, July 1 at midnight.

Slots Still Available at DPR Summer Camps

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that families can still enroll young people in available slots for four different summer camps. The remaining summer camp slots are limited, and registration will remain open on a first-come, first-served basis until all summer camp slots are full.?

The four summer camps with slots still available include:


* *Little Explorers (ages 3-5)?*Little Explorers Camp uses a theme-based curriculum, taught by experienced early childhood development staff, with a staff to child ratio of 1:4 to 1:5. Children will participate in daily morning meetings, arts and crafts activities, explorations, Drop-Everything-And-Read (DEAR), games, sports, and choice activities.
* *Discovery Camp (ages 6-10)?*Discovery Camp uses a theme-based curriculum to help children get to know themselves and the world around them. Children will participate in daily morning meetings, arts and crafts activities, explorations, Drop-Everything-And-Read (DEAR), games, sports, and choice activities.
* *Sports Camps (ages 8-13)?*Sport Camps will be aligned to DPR?s mantra of ?Go for Gold.? Each day participants will participate in a variety of activities that will encourage and support movement, personal growth, and environmental stewardship. Participants will be taught basic to advanced sport-specific skills. Sports vary depending on recreation center, including basketball, boxing, cheer, tennis, multi-sport, and more.
* *Boost Camps (ages 11-13)?*Boost camps offer specialty enrichment camps with an academic component. Among the specialty camps offered this year are: Rocket Camp, Robotics Camp, Esports Camp, Journalism Camp, Improv Camp and CSI.

This is the last chance for DC residents to have exclusive access to these slots. Before and after care sign up is also open, and registration is available only to registered camp participants.
