On Monday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan released a video to celebrate signing the One Minnesota Budget into law,?thanking the legislators and advocates who helped pass a historic agenda that will lower costs and help make Minnesota the best state in the nation to raise a family.
"We?re leading the nation on climate, gun safety, and protecting reproductive rights. We?re investing in education and ensuring no child has to learn on an empty stomach. We?re expanding voting rights, expanding workers' rights, and reducing child poverty," said Governor Walz. "In January, I outlined a vision to make Minnesota the best state in the nation for kids to grow up in. We?re delivering on that promise."
"In Minnesota, we?re leading with our values. We?re significantly cutting child poverty, providing universal school meals, establishing paid family and medical leave, and so much more," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "After decades of organizing, we?re ushering this life-changing work across the finish line ? and showing the country what it looks like to be a state where we take care of each other and lift up everyone.
At EconCon in Washington, D.C., Lieutenant Governor Flanagan?joined experts and policymakers from across the country to discuss how Minnesota is setting a new standard for implementing progressive economic policies.
?In Minnesota, we?re making child care more affordable. We?re investing in the organizations that anchor our communities and establishing paid family and medical leave," said Lieutenant?Governor Flanagan. "We're showing the country it's worth it to lead with our values to build an economy that works for all of us."
On Wednesday, Governor Walz met with sheriffs and law enforcement officials from across the state at a conference hosted by the Minnesota Sheriffs? Association. During the meeting, Governor Walz highlighted his plan, which was recently passed by the legislature and signed into law, to give $300 million in public safety aid to public safety departments across the state.
?Sheriffs and law enforcement officials are integral to the safety and well-being of every community. They know their communities best and deserve full support from the state,? said Governor Walz. ?After advocating for this funding for years, I?m excited we are investing $300 million in public safety departments across the state. Whether it?s Brainerd, Duluth, or the Twin Cities, this funding will directly help local public safety officials with recruiting, training, equipment, and officer wellness.?
Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan attended the National Congress of American Indians Convention, which was hosted in Minnesota.?
"It was an honor to speak at the National Congress of American Indians and share what Minnesota is doing to become one of the best states in the country for tribal state relations," said Governor Walz.
"I?m grateful Minnesota could host the National Congress of American Indians this week ? the largest gathering of all federally recognized tribal nations. These opportunities are valuable as we work to build partnerships and honor government-to-government relationships," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.?
On Monday, Governor Walz and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced that exports of manufactured, agricultural, and mining goods from Minnesota were valued at $6.6 billion in the first quarter of 2023, outpacing national growth. This is Minnesota?s eighth consecutive quarter of export growth.
?Minnesota?s economy is making a global impact,? said Governor Walz. ?We will continue strengthening the trade partnerships that support our economy, create Minnesota jobs, and allow local communities to thrive. Minnesota?s workers and businesses should be proud of the results we?ve seen month after month.?
