First, some good news: The recent debt-ceiling agreement helped us avert a serious economic catastrophe. (That’s always a win in my book.)

Then, some not-so-good news: As I told Fox 2 News earlier this week, House Republicans forced bits of their unpopular agenda into the debt-ceiling agreement: Cutting back on green infrastructure development, rolling back regulations on fossil fuels, and slowing down expansion of clean energy.

Finally, some hopeful news: As chair of the Climate Solutions Caucus in Congress, I’m working with my fellow Democrats to introduce legislation that will bridge the gap and restore our hard-won progress on climate.

I wish I could tell you it’s a sure thing, but the truth is, getting meaningful climate legislation through a Republican-controlled House will be a tall order.

We could sit back and wait for the day when pigs fly and Republicans finally get real about confronting this crisis. But until that day comes, we have to do whatever we can right now to expand clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and avert a worst-case climate scenario.
