John,
In Rep. Cori Bush’s home state of Missouri and across the country, transgender people are under attack. Hate crimes and hateful policies are on the rise as right-wing leaders attempt to erase trans people.
This Pride Month, we again want to affirm for our LGBTQ+ readers that we value you, we know you matter, and we’ve got your back.
Cori is committed to justice for people of marginalized genders, which is one of the reasons why she’s championing the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The ERA is a powerful tool to protect our rights and to push back against discrimination based on sex or gender -- including discrimination based on people’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
Please add your name today to show your support for the Equal Rights Amendment, so we can enshrine protections for women and LGBTQ+ people in our Constitution.

The language of the ERA prohibits discrimination on the basis of the gender-neutral term “sex,” which includes sexual orientation and gender identity. This interpretation of “sex” was recently affirmed by the Supreme Court.
If the ERA were enshrined in our Constitution, it would be an important tool for policymakers and the courts to challenge homophobic and transphobic legislation.
For example, Missouri’s Governor just signed two anti-trans bills, including one that would deny access to lifesaving gender-affirming care for young people and some adults.
Families are not sure they will safely be able to stay in Missouri, and those with resources may join the wave of migration inside the U.S. as people flee anti-trans policies in GOP-led states.
Clearly, we cannot accept this status quo. The ERA is a constitutional amendment for our times, and desperately needed to protect those most on the margins.
Black women and LGBTQ+ people have always been on the forefront of the fight for the ERA, and Cori has joined her colleague Ayanna Pressley to continue that legacy. Together, they have introduced pro-ERA legislation and launched the first-ever Congressional Caucus for the Equal Rights Amendment.
Please sign if you agree: We need the Equal Rights Amendment now!
In solidarity,
Team Cori
