Republicans don't care about the will of the people. Last year, Kansas voters rejected a ballot referendum that would have eliminated the right to abortion from the state constitution. The referendum was defeated by a wider margin than almost anyone expected — nearly 18 points.

The people of Kansas were crystal clear: they want abortion to remain legal in their state.

But that hasn't stopped Kansas Republicans from passing one anti-choice law after another this legislative session. They passed a law mandating that providers must tell their patients lies about the abortion pill. They passed a ridiculous, scientifically unfounded "born alive" law that we don't even want to get into — except to say that it peddles a dangerous false narrative about "failed abortions."

And most recently, they passed a devastating law that offers tuition assistance to Kansas medical students — in an attempt to reverse the state's shortage of OB-GYNs — but NOT to any medical student trained to perform abortions. Pregnancy termination is, of course, a safe, effective, and common medical procedure — and one that is still legal in Kansas.

The lesson here? Republicans don't care about the will of the people. They only care about power, control, and limiting our freedoms.
