Team,
It’s no secret that I’m concerned about the state of our democracy.
Too often, our leaders are focused on winning partisan fights or media attention, rather than protecting the norms and principles that have built our republic. Case in point: Donald Trump.
Despite his indictment on federal charges yesterday, his impact on our democracy and voting rights in this country remains.
Yet I’m happy to say that this week there was a notable victory in the fight for our future.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled against blatant racial gerrymandering in Alabama. The state must redraw the district lines, giving Democrats a fighting chance at multiple House seats.
In a democracy, every voice should matter. No one should be prevented from having an impact because of dark money, gerrymandering, or voter suppression.
I’m truly pleased by this Supreme Court decision. But our fight doesn’t end here.
We must continue to work to protect voting rights nationally and get dark money out of our elections. Our democracy hangs in the balance.
Will you take a second to sign our petition in support of voting rights? By capitalizing on the momentum of this Supreme Court decision, we can fight back against those attacking the basic values of our government.
