Dear John,
On Wednesday, the Energy, Utilities, and Technology Committee voted in favor of two conflicting bills – each bill would determine the future of community solar in Maine, and each would result in a different outcome for Maine’s clean energy future.
LD 1986 would reform Maine’s Net Energy Billing program while ensuring Maine continues to make progress on clean energy. It would hold utilities accountable by requiring them to demonstrate the costs and benefits of their projects, help Maine meet its ambitious and necessary goal of 100% clean energy by 2040, and lower energy costs for Maine families.
On the other hand, LD 1347 would jeopardize existing solar projects and eliminate small-scale, community solar programs that benefit Maine businesses, nonprofits, and more. It would not require the same transparency about costs and benefits that LD 1986 demands – transparency that is so important in making informed policy decisions about Maine’s clean energy future.
Please help protect the future of community solar and clean energy in Maine. Click here to send a message to your legislators urging them to vote in favor of LD 1986 and against LD 1347.
