Within minutes of the news breaking last night that Donald Trump was being
federally charged for what we now know to be 38 crimes related to his
mishandling of classified documents, he had sent a fundraising email to
his followers, shamelessly using his criminality to enrich himself and
fund his 2024 campaign.^1

In his nonsensical screed, he claimed that "we are watching our Republic
DIE before our very eyes."^2 That's right: Facing accountability for his
crimes spells doom for our nation, because Trump believes that he is above
the law.

He is not.

Moments ago, the 38-count indictment was unsealed, showing clear evidence
that Trump not only retained classified documents but also shared them
with unauthorized individuals, conspired with others to hide them, and
lied to investigators to conceal his scheme.^3

The evidence is undeniable. Trump is guilty, and it is long past time that

In 2021, Trump became the first president in history to be impeached
twice.^4 In March of this year, he became the first president in history
to face criminal charges after being charged with 34 felonies in New
York.^5 In May, he became the first president ever found liable for sexual
assault.^6 And last night, he became the first president ever to be
federally indicted.^7

The list of his corruption and criminality is far longer than that, and
for decades, he has used his money and power to avoid consequences.

That must end now.

At this moment, Trump remains the frontrunner for the Republican
nomination in 2024, and if he is allowed to control the narrative and once
again evade accountability, we could be one step closer to putting him
back in the White House.

We cannot and will not let that happen.
