But they could stop working at any moment.

Hank Johnson for Congress

Our courts are working, John.

Last night, we learned that Donald Trump has been indicted in Florida on federal charges surrounding the mishandling of classified documents. And just a few minutes ago, the indictment was unsealed.

New York Times headline: Justice Department Charges Trump in Documents Case

This is the first federal indictment of a former U.S. President in our nation’s history.

It comes two months after the first state-level indictment of a former President — when a grand jury led by New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted Trump for hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.

And between those two events, Trump was found by a New York jury to have sexually abused and defamed E. Jean Carroll.

Our courts are working.

But our federal judiciary could burst at the seams at any moment. The far-right is putting stress on our judiciary. They’re stacking the Supreme Court with justices hand-picked by the conservative Federalist Society. They’re trying to hijack our judicial system at all levels to suit their ends.

John, our courts MUST continue working.

That’s why I introduced and am fighting to pass reforms to strengthen the independence of the Supreme Court and the federal judiciary. Will you chip in to have my back so that I can keep my focus on ensuring that our federal courts continue to work for the American people?
