Hi John.
I proudly call myself an infrastructure nerd.
Rebuilding our roads means creating good-paying jobs. Improving our railways means securing our supply chains and lowering costs. And replacing lead pipes means healthier families.
We often don't think about it, but these are just some of the ways that infrastructure touches our lives. Rebuilding our infrastructure means building an economy that works for everyone.
I was honored to work with Republicans and Democrats to pass a historic infrastructure law. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says the law is fiscally responsible. And now, we’re seeing the results across the Kansas Third District.
So today, here's an update on how the bipartisan infrastructure law is making a difference >>
Safer Roads
Tragically, 21 percent of all Kansas’ pedestrian crash-related deaths in 2020 happened in the Third District. But now the bipartisan infrastructure law is making improvements to save lives. That includes improvements for three roads in Wyandotte County.

I’m making it a priority to see how the bipartisan infrastructure law is making a difference in our community. In one of my latest Sharice’s Shifts, I shadowed some crews in Wyandotte County.
The bipartisan infrastructure law is helping to redesign roads and streets to save lives. And now KCK is receiving support to develop a new and comprehensive safety plan.
Many roadway deaths are preventable. And with the bipartisan infrastructure law, we can begin making our roads safer for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency and construction workers.

Clean Drinking Water
Everyone deserves access to clean drinking water. Unfortunately, a survey found there may be 54,000 possibly unsafe lead service lines in Kansas. These pipes could be carrying drinking water to homes, schools, and other buildings.
That’s why I’m pleased to announce new bipartisan infrastructure law funding to replace lead pipes in Kansas. You can click here to learn more about it.
Last year, I had a chance to see how the bipartisan infrastructure law is helping to replace lead pipes in Olathe.
We have a responsibility to ensure that water is safe for our communities to use. And thankfully, the bipartisan infrastructure law is helping us do just that.
This also adds to new bipartisan infrastructure law support for crucial stormwater and wastewater upgrades in Kansas. Our area needs significant wastewater facility repairs to prevent overflows over the next 25 years.
Lower Energy Costs
The bipartisan infrastructure law is also investing in groundbreaking clean energy research. Investing in clean energy means more jobs, lower utility bills, and less pollution.
In fact, the University of Kansas just received a new grant from the bipartisan infrastructure law to develop new technology to recycle decaying solar panels. Click here to learn more.
Wind and solar power offer enormous opportunities for our economy in Kansas.
It’s great to see this innovation and research happening at the University of Kansas. It will help our country get ahead of the climate crisis and lower costs on local utility bills.
But more than that, the bipartisan infrastructure law is also creating good paying jobs that don’t need a college degree. That's construction workers to electricians and everyone in between. The bipartisan infrastructure law is helping to build an economy that works for everyone.
I recently had the chance to meet with students at the Olathe Advanced Technical Center and USD 232 Career and Technical Education Program. Technical schools offer smaller class sizes, hands-on training, and an affordable option to receive a quality education.
One of my first experiences in public service was working as a White House fellow, in both the Obama and Trump Administrations. There, I specialized in infrastructure issues and worked closely with officials at the Department of Transportation.
Now I have the privilege of serving you on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. And though I know a lot of folks are understandably frustrated with Washington, it’s gratifying to see what a difference we can make when Republicans and Democrats work together.
It’s an honor to serve you and your family in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
