Friends,
President Trump has not only undermined our nation’s foreign policy with his reckless decision making — he has also put our troops stationed abroad at greater risk, and even dismissed symptoms of traumatic brain injuries in troops hit by the airstrike in Iran.
Now he’s trying to use an authorization of military force in Iraq from 2002 to justify further attacks on Iran — despite members of his administration having sworn this AUMF would not apply to Iran.
The solemn responsibility to declare war lies with Congress alone, not the president. So now it’s our job to exert our Constitutional control over this out-of-control “toddler-in-chief.”
That’s why I’m calling on my colleagues to join me in voting to pass Senator Kaine’s bipartisan War Powers Resolution — to prevent President Trump from taking military action without Congressional authorization.
