Synopsis: Since June 1967, Israel has controlled, in one way or another, the lives of the Palestinians living in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Over the course of fifty years, this control has become more sophisticated, more systematic, and harder to recognize.

The Law and the Prophets is a feature documentary that amplifies the voices of the brave, determined individuals who are trying to expose the destructive, unjust, and sometimes invisible ways in which Israel exploits and oppresses Palestinians.

What: Two showings of The Law and the Prophets, a documentary film by Joshua Vis of the Reformed Church in America with a Q&A with Joshua Vis after each showing.

When: June 24, 10am and June 25, 4pm

Hello members and friends of the STAR*PAC,

We are Doug and Julie Olson, members of Heartland Presbyterian Church in Clive, Iowa. In March of 2022, we traveled to Palestine with other Iowans from three Presbyteries to learn about the conditions and political realities of life in the occupied territories. Since returning, we have spoken to a number of groups, hoping to educate Iowans about the injustices suffered by Palestinians and perhaps spur them to take some action to help. This spring, we watched a documentary, The Law and The Prophets, which we felt did a wonderful job of doing exactly that.

With the assistance of the Presbyterian Church, Middle East Peace Education Coalition, members of the Reformed Church of America and other interested parties, we have arranged for two free showings of the documentary at the Palms Theater in Waukee.

The Law and the Prophets clearly explains the history of Palestine and the establishment of the State of Israel along with the mechanisms of control that Israel deploys to subjugate Palestinians. It features interviews with Israelis and Palestinians who explain the systematic oppression that Israel has devised to keep Palestinians marginalized and pacified. The two showings of the film at The Palms Theater in Waukee, Iowa will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 24, and 4:00 PM Sunday, June 25. There will be no charge for admission. Filmmaker Joshua Vis will be there to answer questions after the film.

We are limited to 70 seats per showing. Reservations will be made in the order received.
