Happy Pride month from Border Angels!

PROGRAM UPDATES:
Water Drop:

Our team headed out last weekend on a scouting mission and to drop some water! We do so to ensure the supplies we are leaving are being consumed and if they need to be replenished.

We are excited to open up more dates and volunteer opportunities for water drops as we know we have a high interest and are working to do so in the most effective and safe way possible.

For any questions regarding water drops and volunteer opportunities please email our coordinator at [email protected]

With the help of your generous donations we were able to support Jardin de Las Mariposas with groceries! When you support our Shelter Aid program you assist shelters like this one for LGBTQI+ migrants on the move seeking refuge, asylum and other displaced persons. Their services include clothing donations, food, shelters, individual counseling, support groups, recreational activities, workshops and more. We are proud to support beautiful and inclusive spaces like this one, and celebrate them not just this month, but all year round!

Second Plane Carrying Migrants Arrives in Sacramento
A group of Latin American migrants aboard a chartered private plane landed at a small airport in Sacramento on Monday, the second such planeload in three days to arrive in California’s capital city from an airfield in New Mexico.

The group of 20 migrants — 16 from Venezuela, two from Colombia, one from Nicaragua and one from Mexico, according to California’s Justice Department — landed just before 10:30 a.m. Pacific time and was ushered into a room at Sacramento Executive Airport to meet with state law enforcement officials. One of the migrants, David Mata, 28, said he arrived in the United States from Venezuela roughly two weeks ago looking for work. Mr. Mata said that he did not know who had orchestrated his trip to Sacramento, but that whoever did had paid for it in its entirety.

Another group of migrants arrived on Friday at a different Sacramento airport aboard the same private plane. The authorities in California said those migrants carried papers indicating that their travel had been “administered by the Florida Division of Emergency Management” and its contractor, Vertol Systems Company, which is based in Florida.

Florida Republicans Admit They Made a Big Mistake With Anti-Immigrant Law
Florida Republicans passed a bill criminalizing the transport of undocumented people into Florida, requiring hospitals to ask about immigration status on intake forms, invalidating out of state driver’s licenses or other forms of government ID issued to undocumented people, and preventing local governments from issuing identification cards to undocumented people.

Now, after sparking backlash among thousands of immigrants (who make up a great deal of Florida’s economy), some Florida Republicans are trying to backpedal and do damage control.

On Monday, Representatives Alina Garcia, Rick Roth, and Juan Fernandez Barquin appeared at an event sponsored by Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo, also a Republican. The trio, all of whom voted to pass the anti-immigrant bill, clumsily attempted to appeal to the thousands of people their party has alienated.
