For the first time in our history, a former president – and the front-runner for his party’s presidential nomination – is facing federal charges.
This is a perilous test of American democracy.
From the first day of this campaign, I’ve said that defending our democracy is one of the main reasons I’m running for Congress. Having seen the cost in my own family’s history, I’ll be damned if I’m going to allow our freedom and democracy to be trampled. Today, I'm asking for your help as we stand up for the values that define our nation.
For 25 years, I’ve been working to protect and expand our democracy. In the courtroom as an Arizona Assistant Attorney General. In the military as a Navy intelligence officer. I even started a publication called “Democracy.”
In times like these, we need people prepared and experienced to fight for democracy. David Schweikert is not that person. He voted against certifying the election to keep Donald Trump in power and vowed to break apart the FBI to keep Trump out of jail.
As a former Arizona prosecutor, I can tell you: No one is above the law. During this historic test of our democracy, I cannot and will not sit back and watch Rep. Schweikert and others threaten it. We cannot allow a man who stands with Trump – and against justice – to continue to represent us in Congress. Will you help me today in my campaign to defend our democracy?
This month we’re counting down to the all-important June 30 FEC reporting deadline. We have 21 days to go. The amount of financial support we can show by then will shape the rest of our campaign.
