Unconstitutional Hate Speech Legislation Coming to Michigan House HB 4474 & HB 4475 are in committee at the Michigan House. This legislation threatens your right to freedom of speech. It amends Michigan's existing Ethnic Intimidation law and expands it to criminalize "hate speech," making it a felony. The language proposed in these bills clearly violates the First Amendment and our religious liberty. Find My Representative "Conversion Therapy" Ban Poses Threat to Religious Freedom A package of bills was recently introduced to the legislature that would ban "conversion therapy" for minors in Michigan. These bills define conversion therapy as any recommendation from a mental health professional to change sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. This poses a significant threat to religious liberty. For example, a Christian counselor could face harsh penalties if she explained God's intended design for marriage or sexuality to a minor. Find My Representative Find My Senator Rep. Brad Paquette Proposes Ban on Puberty Blockers and Transgender Surgeries for Minors Rep. Paquette has introduced legislation to ban gender reassignment surgery and puberty blocking drugs for minors. These drugs have been known to harm children's bodies and leave them sterile. While unlikely to pass, this sends a message of support for the protection of our kids from harmful, experimental procedures that might hurt them and leave them with long-lasting side effects. CTV supports Rep. Paquette's efforts and hopes to see co-sponsors join him. Rep. Neil Friske Introduces Pro-Life Bills to Michigan House Rep. Friske has put forward a package of bills to reverse Proposal 3, restore the 1931 abortion ban, and restore bans on abortion pills and advertising for abortion services. While unlikely to pass, this package serves as a model template for pro-life goals in Michigan. CTV supports the efforts of Rep. Friske and co-sponsors Reps. Maddock, Carra, DeSana, Cavitt, Rigas, Fox, and Alexander.
