John, background checks are a crucial way we can ensure that guns aren’t getting into the hands of the wrong people, like convicted felons and abusers.

Right now, our current legislation is broken and filled with loopholes, including:

• Unlicensed private sellers, doing business online and at gun shows, aren’t required to do a background check on buyers, opening the door to millions of dangerous gun sales.


• All gun purchases at licensed sellers are allowed to move forward by default if a background check takes longer than 3 business days, allowing those illegally prohibited to obtain deadly weapons.

These NRA-backed loopholes have opened the door for thousands of people to illegally obtain firearms.

We must fix this broken system and amend our laws to protect our country and our communities.
