Immigrant rights advocates sue Biden administration over asylum ban

NIJC joined the ACLU, ACLU of Northern California, and Center for Gender & Refugee Studies in a lawsuit challenging the new asylum ban. Asylum is a human and legal right that protects people whose livelihoods and safety are in jeopardy. Asylum is a lifeline for many and we will defend it.

Immigrant rights groups call on Biden administration to stop interviews in CBP custody

NIJC joined hundreds of organizations in calling on the Biden administration to stop forcing asylum seekers to do credible fear interviews while in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). 

After weeks of trying to provide legal consultation to people in this situation, NIJC staff found the U.S. government is actively obstructing access to counsel and is intentionally rushing people through to deportation without legal advice or representation. Read our findings.

 
 
 

Title 42 closes as asylum faces mounting challenges

As Title 42 has officially ended, attacks on immigrants' right to seek asylum have mounted.

The U.S. government faces an important choice: stand on the right side of history by protecting those who seek safety or end asylum and strip immigrants of a life-saving, fundamental right.

Immigration advocates celebrate the 24th annual Human Rights Awards

NIJC honored human rights champions and celebrated the contributions of community, and business leaders at our Human Rights Awards this week with 1,000 attendees!
