Today, policy leaders and Governor Evers announced a legislative deal that will secure additional funding for private and charter schools, and we are grateful for the bipartisan collaboration that has made this a reality.
WHAT'S IN THE DEAL? The voucher amount for K-8 schools will increase from $8,399 to $9,000. The high school voucher amount will increase from $9,045 to $12,000. Also included is an increase in the charter school amount to $11,000 from $9,264.
This new funding represents a substantial step towards ensuring that every child is valued equally, no matter where they live or what type of school they attend. It also will ensure the viability of the choice program for years to come, and allow for the number of high-quality choice schools to grow.
The new funding levels will ensure that private school choice options continue to flourish in Wisconsin, and reduce the risk of schools leaving the program due to a lack of funds. This is most critical for choice high schools—which were significantly underfunded relative to their public-school peers.
Wisconsin led the nation with one of the first School Choice programs in the country and we are again leading the way!
