John,
Even while we successfully defended Social Security and Medicare from cuts in Kevin McCarthy’s budget, we knew the fight wasn’t over. McCarthy recently told Fox news:[1]
“This isn’t the end…I’m going to announce a commission. We have to look at the entire budget. The President walled off all the others. The majority driver of the budget is mandatory spending. It’s Medicare, Social Security, interest on the debt.”
We’re fighting back against commissions that cut Social Security and Medicare. Voters overwhelmingly support protecting and expanding Social Security―and paying for it by making the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes.[2]

John,
When Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare, they assemble commissions so that voters won’t know who to blame for the cuts.
That’s why, when President Biden truthfully stated in his State of the Union address that Republicans wanted to cut Social Security, Republicans were outraged. They didn’t want the American people to know the truth about their plans to cut and privatize Social Security.
But now, Speaker Kevin McCarthy has said the quiet part out loud. Check out what McCarthy recently told Fox News:
We’re fighting back against commissions that cut Social Security and Medicare. Instead of cutting benefits, we know that we can expand benefits and extend the lifespan of the trust fund when the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes.

In 2016, one of the reasons Donald Trump won the Republican presidential primary was that he differentiated himself from his opponents by pledging to not cut Social Security. Of course, once he was in office, he undertook a stealth campaign to attack our earned benefits.[1][2] But he was savvy enough to realize that Americans love Social Security and Medicare and want them expanded, not cut.
In fact, public polling shows that a bipartisan 76% of voters want to increase Social Security’s modest benefits, and pay for it by making the rich pay their fair share of taxes.[3]
We’re fighting back against Republican attempts to cut our earned benefits. Donate today to fight back against Kevin McCarthy’s Social Security-cutting commission.

Together, we’re demanding the rich start paying their fair share. When they do, we can expand and strengthen Social Security and Medicare, raising benefits and extending the lifespan of their trust funds for years to come.
