Good morning John,

Today’s the day! We’re on our way to Salem for Oregon’s Climate Emergency Rally, our biggest climate event of the year. Help us take action by posting a photo in support of a strong climate bill on Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook!

Over 1,000 people have already RSVP’d for the rally: that’s over 1,000 climate activists of all ages and backgrounds, from all across Oregon, gathering together on the Capitol Steps at noon. I’m already feeling inspired! Hopefully we’ll see you later today.

Activists, parents, students, farmers, and other Oregonians like you have been helping build momentum for today’s event. Last week, at hearings for SB 1530 (the new climate bill), so many supporters showed up to testify that there wasn’t enough space in the room. And, on Thursday, youth captured everyone’s attention at a press conference to call out the urgent need for climate action.

I’m still thinking about the wise words of one of those youth activists, a high school student named Sriya: “Our lawmakers must understand after decades of delay, they are the last ones who can do something about this crisis,” she said. “Anything but ambitious climate action is just another way to deny the truth.”

This is a historic moment. This is our last chance to act. And I know that I, as a twenty-something young woman, will be doing everything I can to fight for Oregon’s future. Young people are the ones inheriting the world. We’re the ones who will have to live with climate chaos. That’s why we need to act. As Sriya said: “This moment in human history, right now, is monumental because we are going to turn all of this around.”

Whether or not you can make it to the rally, there’s an easy way you can help us take action—show Oregon’s lawmakers that you’re with us by posting a photo of yourself on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram, along with the following message:

My name is [YOUR NAME] from [YOUR CITY], and I call on my legislators to pass #ORClimateAction. #orpol #orleg

Messages of support like this can make a big difference! We hope you’ll join us today, whether in person or over social media. Let’s show Oregon’s leaders how many of us stand in support of a strong climate bill!

Thank you,
Francesca Varela

Staying in touch via the Oregon League of Conservation Voters’ email list is the best way we have of keeping in regular contact with supporters like you and letting you know about the ways you can take action to protect the environment. You can [link removed] from our supporter list, but if you leave, it will be harder for you to stay involved with OLCV and continue the work that you’ve been such a critical part of. OLCV wins environmental policy fights and elections because of dedicated activists like you, and we’d hate to see you go.
