Big news: we’re launching a new letter writing campaign to encourage voter turnout in Ohio’s August special election. So many of you reached out to request an Ohio-specific campaign, and we heard you loud and clear. Letters will be available starting next week!
Republican lawmakers in Ohio want to increase the voter approval threshold for constitutional amendments from a simple majority to 60%. Ohioans will have the chance to vote "no" on that proposed change in an August 8 special election.
Currently, Ohio’s state constitution can be amended via a ballot initiative with a simple majority vote from citizens. But if this approval threshold change becomes law, potential amendments might fail even if a majority of Ohioans support the change.
This means future citizen-led constitutional amendments on issues including abortion access, fair maps, and more could be harder to pass—putting health care, voting rights, and democracy itself in major jeopardy.
We’ll be writing letters to young, Democratic-leaning women in Ohio ahead of the August special election to encourage them to make their voices heard on this critical initiative! So get your blue pens, paper, envelopes, and stamps ready to go.
Stay tuned for an announcement email from us next week and, in the meantime, you can help our team get this campaign out the door by making a small donation to support this work.
We’ll be back in touch soon!
