Casa Navarro, San Antonio
"This Sunday", June 11
Tex-Mex food is a unique aspect of South Texas culture. Staple ingredients such as corn can be traced back hundreds of years to the Indigenous groups of what are now Mexico and Texas. The importance of corn in local cuisine continues, as many tortillerias offer fresh-ground masa and tortillas. On June 11, Casa Navarro State Historic Site [ [link removed] ] in San Antonio is hosting a Cornapalooza Block Party, with fun and educational activities related to corn. La Familia de la Torres will demonstrate how to make tamales, and participants will be able to take home recipes. There will be a DJ, folklorico performances, children’s activities including story time, and historical interpreters from the Alamo and Washington-on-the-Brazos.
