2023 Vaquita Survey Results, World Oceans Day, and the Matching Gift Challenge!
Dear John,
World Oceans Day celebrates our shared ocean and reminds us of our personal connection to the sea. Every year, we join World Oceans Day to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives, and for Sea Shepherd, every day is an opportunity to help protect our oceans.
Just yesterday, we saw clear evidence of the impact we can all have - together - to help protect endangered marine wildlife. The 2023 Vaquita Survey was released and we are beyond thrilled to share that 10 or possibly more Vaquita exist, including a minimum of one newly born calf. Dr. Barbara Taylor, leader of the comprehensive evaluation, said “This survey revealed the greatest conservation success for vaquitas in my 30 years working to conserve this species,” and later in the report states “The apparent 90% decrease in gillnetting within the last stronghold of the Vaquitas is probably the most significant step taken to date to save this species.”

This work is made possible by YOU, and on this World Oceans Day, you can
double your impact thanks to a $250,000 Matching Gift Challenge<[link removed]> provided by Sea Shepherd’s Chairman, Pritam Singh. Your support means the iconic Martin Sheen vessel, which has already finished two legs of Operation Revillagigedo this year, can now turn to Operation Guadalupe to focus on the conservation of whales, and it makes sure our captains and crews can defend the line between extinction and survival for some of the most endangered species on earth.
To those that have already donated to our
Matching Gift Challenge<[link removed]>, we offer our deepest thanks for the invaluable difference you are making for our campaigns.
