UPDATE: Too Hot! Too High! Teach-In and Art Action has been RESCHEDULED to next week, Wednesday, June 14 at 5:30 pm. If you haven’t already, please sign up at BIT.LY/2HOT2HIGH. Please help spread the word about the event’s postponement by sharing these posts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
As hundreds of wildfires burn in Quebec and Ottawa, leaving more than 10 million acres charred, New Yorkers 500 miles away are choking on the air, instead of fighting in the streets. We are rescheduling, but as always, are undaunted. We also want to make sure that everyone remains as healthy as possible until we get through these dangerous conditions. As Bill McKibben noted yesterday, this is what a huge percentage of the world experiences every day.
In these moments when the severity of the climate crisis breaks through and is in the front of everyone’s minds, we need to double down and protect our communities. Today, we can do this by ensuring the NY HEAT Act passes in the final daysweek of the legislative session. NY HEAT eliminates massive ratepayer subsidies for the fracked gas industry to expand fossil fuel infrastructure, it will also cap energy bills at 6% for low-and middle-income families while cleaning our air and cutting greenhouse gas pollution. Use this easy form to urge your state assembly member to pass the NY HEAT Act, and share it with your friends!
We know the wisdom and art of the Too Hot! Too High! Teach-in will be even more welcome on June 14th and we really look forward to being together with all of you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Thanks and stay safe,
Michele, Brynn, and Molly
