Tomorrow, we have the opportunity to take a major step forward in the fight to end the Muslim ban. As you may know, we’ve been working tirelessly with our coalition partners to pass the NO BAN Act, which would repeal the Muslim ban and prevent future unjust bans. Last year, we demonstrated the need to pass the NO BAN Act during the historic first Congressional Hearing on the Muslim ban.
[link removed] [[link removed]] Now we’re finally getting movement on the bill. The House Judiciary Committee will vote tomorrow on whether to send the NO BAN Act to the full House. Committee members can debate, amend, and rewrite parts of the bill before sending it to the House floor for a final vote.
We want to ensure a slam dunk victory once the bill reaches the House floor. This means getting at least every single House Democrat to vote yes. There are still some Democrats that have yet to express support for the NO BAN Act, but we think we can secure their votes with just a little more pressure from their constituents. So we’ve partnered with HiGeorge to get us there.
HiGeorge was created so that everyone could have measurable impact on civic issues -- even those who aren’t represented by our target representatives. This means that, while your Congressperson may not be a target because they have already supported the bill, you can help raise funds directly for ads to mobilize people in key states to press key lawmakers who have yet to sign on. This will ensure that our voices reach the lawmakers who most need to hear from us via the voters they are accountable to.
