The situation in Sudan is growing dire.

“We are running out of fuel. If the electricity cuts persist, we don’t know how we will be able to assist pregnant women giving birth a week from now,” Sarah, a midwife in Khartoum, told us.

As fighting rages in Sudan, fuel shortages and power cuts have forced many hospitals in the capital and across the country to suspend emergency maternal health services — like obstetric fistula surgeries and neonatal care.

With an estimated 90,000 pregnant women expected to give birth in the next three months as violence, fear, and chaos envelop their lives, your support is urgently needed to ensure they have access to essential reproductive health services.

Please: Rush in an emergency gift to deploy midwives, lifesaving health care for pregnant women, and critical resources to every woman and girl impacted by the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

UNFPA-supported hospitals have received over 250 women per day since the conflict erupted on April 15th and performed a daily average of 54 operations. But electricity cuts and a fuel shortage are threatening the hospitals’ ability to continue functioning.

“We brought a woman suffering from birth complications to the hospital. The doctor performed a C-section and informed us that this was the last surgery they could do, as fuel supplies had run out,” said another midwife, Anna.

There have also been distressing reports of newborns dying due to a lack of oxygen amid electricity blackouts. Stories like these will become even more prevalent unless we act quickly. More than 4 million women and girls have been caught up in the conflict or fled violence, and their needs are growing by the day.

Your gifts can help deliver solar power systems that provide round-the-clock electricity for maternity wards, operating rooms, blood bank refrigerators, incubators, and medicine storage facilities. Your support can deploy midwives across Sudan to pregnant women’s homes, ensuring safe births and vital care even in the darkest of times.

Will you make an emergency gift to deliver lifesaving care to women and girls in Sudan? Millions are counting on your generosity today.
