JOHN,
Even as right-wing hate is attempting to tear our country apart, I am still optimistic about our future. This is because young people are more engaged in politics today than any time since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and ‘60s.
And, this younger generation is the most diverse of any in U.S. history.
Through our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC, we’ve developed a youth fellowship program to train young people of diverse backgrounds, ages 14 – 24 on the skills to be effective organizers on a range of issues impacting our communities. This year’s fellows are 100% BIPOC with 85% identifying as women, 7% men, and 7% non-binary.
Past graduates have gone on to be student government leaders on their college campuses, worked as local and regional organizers on youth engagement and student GOTV efforts, and worked in areas ranging from environmental justice to Palestinian liberation.
Here’s what a few Youth Fellowship graduates said about their experiences:
“I was very excited to not only learn more about what’s going on in my community, but also to learn about myself more―being able to speak in front of people and learn how to engage with my peers.”
“[The fellowship] thoughtfully and safely [created] an environment for all of us to get together and talk about our field work, social issues, and our lives. It's really a great thing that the Tlaib Team has put together.”
“Being in this fellowship, I have now gone out of my way to connect with community activities and others doing great things for our community.”
In the first 5 months of the 2023 youth fellowship, participants have already completed 340 hours of field work in their communities while also receiving instruction from local community organizers about criminal legal reform, the history of the labor movement and union organizing, environmental justice and access to clean water, education justice, and gun violence prevention.
Pitch in now to invest in our youth fellowship program and invest in the leaders of tomorrow, today.
Organizing young people did not happen overnight. It’s taken a multi-year, year-round organizing strategy to train and mobilize young people.
Younger voters are concerned about the climate crisis, workers’ rights, college affordability, access to clean water, housing, LGBTQ+ rights, immigrant rights, abortion rights, and racial and social justice. In order to advance our shared agenda, we must continue to invest in youth leadership.
Donate today to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC to fund our youth fellowship and provide young people with the training they need to be leaders in their communities.

Young people are ready to lead now! Together, we’re providing them with the tools to be successful for decades to come.
Thank you,
Rashida
