John, I'm really excited to see so much engagement from Virginians now that early voting is underway before June 20's primary election. It's clear that folks care deeply about the future of the Commonwealth — and they're looking for leaders who will put their voices first and protect their fundamental rights.
So I wanted to reach out to encourage you to support my good friend Hala Ayala in her campaign for State Senate. Winning her race is critical to protecting the progress we made under my administration, and Hala's proven that she knows how to get results and always stay true to our core values.
When I was Governor of the Commonwealth, we abolished the death penalty, codified voting rights for all Virginians, installed protections for the LGBTQ+ community, raised the minimum wage, welcomed thousands of refugees and immigrants, ratified the ERA, took down the Confederate statues in Richmond, and expanded Medicaid to hundreds of thousands of Virginians.
Hala was a strong partner in advancing this agenda, and I know that she will fight to stop radical Republicans in Richmond from rolling back our achievements.
If Democrats lose their narrow majority in the State Senate, we could see a wave of extreme legislation — from abortion bans to education cuts — become law.
That's why it's important that we have the strongest possible slate of nominees come November in key districts. And I can tell you that Hala has been tested by multiple competitive races and will work for every vote on the ground.
