Canadian Wildfires

More than 400 active wildfires were burning across Canada on Wednesday, according to the authorities, exacerbating a wildfire season that has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people, created a sense of anxiety across the sprawling country and triggered air quality alerts hundreds of miles south in the United States, as the NYT reports​​​​​​

Burst Dam Alters Ukraine Battlefield

Floodwaters continued to rise on Wednesday after a major dam and power station in a Russian-occupied part of Ukraine were destroyed, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes and throwing a curveball on the battlefield, as The Wall Street Journal reports. ​​​​​

Blinken to Visit China

US secretary of state Antony Blinken will travel to China this month, in the latest sign that Beijing and Washington are beginning to stabilize a turbulent bilateral relationship that had sunk to the lowest point in decades, as the FT reports.
