Stand with Amanda: send an email today

As you may have heard by now, Amanda Gorman's book of her inaugural poem, The Hill We Climb, was recently removed from elementary school shelves in Miami Lakes, FL. The removal was based on the complaint of a single individual who said the book "is not educational and have indirectly hate messages," but also said the book was written by Oprah Winfrey, and opposed other books about Black history because of "CRT," "gender ideology" and "indoctrination."

Amanda appeared on CBS Mornings today where she said, “There’s a huge loophole that exists where we expect if a book isn’t being burned behind a school and thrown away, that’s not a ban.”

In addition to Amanda's poem, The ABC’s of Black History by Rio Cortez, Love to Langston by Tony Medina, and Cuban Kids by George Ancona were also restricted. Last night Amanda sponsored a book giveaway in Miami where 1200 of these books were handed out to attendees.

Tell Miami-Dade County Schools Superintendent and the administrators at the Bob Graham Educational Center that these stories belong on all school shelves.
