Our June conference and lobby day kicks off this weekend in Washington, D.C., and we’re thrilled to have nearly 1,000 registrants planning to attend. But we know there are plenty more of you who want to participate even if you can’t make it to our nation’s capital. You can plan to tune in for free via livestream!

We are streaming select sessions on Zoom and YouTube throughout Sunday and Monday, including:

- A panel discussion with four all-star CCL volunteers

- A legislative update from our Government Affairs team

- Keynote addresses by Dream.org’s Jameka Hodnett and Ambassador Francis Rooney

- Breakout sessions about carbon border adjustment mechanisms, permitting reform, and more

Check out the conference program to see which sessions will be streamed and when, and plan to tune in.

In other news this week:

• Bipartisan bill lays groundwork for CBAM: Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) and Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) are releasing a bipartisan bill today called the PROVE IT Act. The bill would require the Energy Department to study the emissions intensity of certain products made in the U.S. and in certain countries. This is an encouraging first step toward a carbon border adjustment mechanism. Read more about the bill from the Washington Post, and tune into Sunday’s legislative update to hear from our D.C. team about this development.

• Marshall’s first lobby meeting: Take five minutes to listen to CCL’s founder, Marshall Saunders, share the funny and poignant story of his very first lobby meeting with a member of Congress.

If you have a little time: Email Congress for more permitting reform. The recent debt ceiling bill included some clean energy permitting reform provisions—but this issue is way too important to hit the brakes on now. Clean energy permitting reform legislation could reduce carbon pollution 12% by 2030. Email your members of Congress and ask them to keep going on clean energy permitting reform.

If you have more time: Tune into our June call with Bill McKibben. CCL's monthly call for June takes place this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. We will review the June Action Sheet and hear from guest speaker Bill McKibben, an author, educator and activist who founded 350.org and Third Act. Join us!
Featured chapter: CCL Alameda

CCL Alameda, led by Ted Obbard and Tony Sirna, is a large, longtime chapter in California with a variety of teams dedicated to activities like lobbying, tabling, media, and member engagement. The chapter recently held their 5th annual Earth Day fundraiser, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. They invited their Congressperson, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA-12), and her staff.

“Rep. Lee was unable to attend herself, but she sent a Field Representative who presented us with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition. We are grateful to be honored,” says chapter member Trish Clifford. The certificate recognizes the chapter’s “unwavering commitment to educating and inspiring the residents of Alameda County to act on climate change” and thanks them for their “continued contributions to our community and steadfast support in safeguarding our planet and its inhabitants.”

Also, as part of their Earth Day activities, the chapter’s Building Electrification Team put together a Home Electrification Fair, which helped 80-100 people learn why and how to replace their gas appliances with electric ones.

“We networked with people at allied organizations and local government, with high school students and business owners. We posted to social media, contacted news outlets, and told our friends,” Trish says. “So the fair raised CCL’s local profile and with it an awareness of our work.” Keep it up, CCL Alameda!

CCL has nearly 400 chapters across the country. Find your local chapter today and get plugged in.
