DEVELOPING… Last week, Trump's Interior Department finalized its plans to permit drilling, mining, and grazing in Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante.

These are sacred areas that had previously been protected as national monuments. Trump's plan is now to auction off these landscapes to mining and drilling interests.

The damage will be irreversible. We need your help.

This move needs to be resisted in every possible way. That means beating the Trump administration in court. It means organizing on the ground. It means blocking the sales in Congress. But it all needs to happen now — before the sales move forward.

Earlier in Trump's presidency, the Interior Department redrew boundaries for the two national monuments. Grand Staircase is now half its former size. Bears Ears shrunk by 85 percent.

That move is still under a legal challenge from the environmental movement and Indigenous communities — there's no legal basis for Trump to be able to redraw those boundaries. What that means is there's still a chance to put a stop to the whole thing.

We're urgently pushing Congress to step in as well. There's already a bill in Congress that would restore Bears Ears back to the full 1.9 million acres that tribal communities have worked to protect. If we can get it passed, it will stop Trump's efforts in its tracks.
