Hello,
As Pride Month [[link removed]] ramps up, it is always worth reminding that Pride started as a protest.
In 1969, the Stonewall Riots marked a pivotal turning point in the LGBTQ+ movement. LGBTQ+ people, led by trans women of color, chose to rise up and fight back against police brutality at the Stonewall Inn in New York City.
In 1970, the first Pride parade was held on Christopher Street in New York City. Organized as a political protest to fight for LGBTQ+ rights, this event exemplified the power and passion that the LGBTQ+ community has when we band together.
With the current onslaught of attacks on our LGBTQ+ young people, it is more important than ever to be reminded of our collective power.
We must choose to Rise Up for LGBTQ+ Youth [[link removed]] across the country.

The work did not stop in 1970. It’s up to us to stand up to the hateful rhetoric and actions of our opposition.
SHOW YOUR PRIDE [[link removed]]
GLSEN works every day to ensure that LGBTQ+ students have safe, inclusive, and liberatory school environments.
We will not back down. We will continue the work of our brave LGBTQ+ community that laid the path before us. We will Rise Up.
