Italian MPs Question Italian Foreign Minister on Bahraini Human rights Violations during State Visit by Bahraini Crown Prince

With growing concern and awareness within the international community regarding the human rights violations in Bahrain, specifically framed within the recent upholding of the death sentences of Mohammad Ramadhan and Husain Moosa, many members of Parliament have begun to press their foreign ministers to issue condemnations in order to obtain respect for, and the safeguarding of human rights in Bahrain. Early this week, Italian members of Parliament Erasmo Palazzoto and Lia Quartapelle Procopio questioned the Italian Foreign Minister on Bahrain, during an official visit from the Bahraini Crown Prince Shaikh Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa.

ADHRB submits report ahead of the UAE’s review under the Convention against Torture

In August 2019, ADHRB submitted a report to the Committee Against Torture ahead of the Committee’s review of the United Arab Emirates. In the report, ADHRB examined how the UAE promulgated laws that ostensibly forbid and prohibit the use of torture by security forces, but that security forces flout these laws, and abuse and mistreat detainees. Among the forms of torture that Emirati officials employ is the use of solitary confinement, the prolonged use of which has been ruled a form of torture. The report also looks at how Emirati forces run, oversee, and support prisons in southern Yemen, where prison officials engage in widespread and systematic torture, including sexual torture of detainees.
