“The Islamic State claimed responsibility on Tuesday for killing the deputy governor of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, the group said on its Telegram account. ‘Islamic State fighters managed to detonate a bombed vehicle next to the car of the deputy governor in the city of Fayzabad,’ the account said.”

Dawn: CTD Kills Militant Commander In Bajaur Raid
“Briefing journalists here, CTD Malakand SP Amjad Khan said the outlaw, Subhan alias Usman, a resident of Sheenkot area of Bajaur, belonged to self-styled Islamic State group. He said a joint operation was launched by officials of CTD, police and security forces on a tip-off about the presence of the militant commander in the area. He said CTD also recovered a Kalashnikov, three hand grenades, 25 cartridges and a bundle of wire from the site. The CTD SP said they had received information that the militant commander in connivance with his accomplices was preparing a plan to carry out a sabotage act.”

“Addressing a news conference at CTD Headquarters, Peshawar CTD SSP Kashif Aftab Abbasi maintained that they had received information about the presence of some outlaws in the Mattani area of the provincial capital, who were planning to carry out attacks in the city. He said that the Peshawar CTD Police and security forces jointly raided the terrorists’ compound after which they opened fire on the police. In the retaliatory fire, one terrorist was killed while two were injured whereas their three accomplices managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. The SSP told the media that the outlaws belonged to a terrorist organisation – Shina Group – and had been wanted in various criminal activities, including attack on Adizai check post, extortion, wall chalking and distribution of pamphlets for banned outfits. He said that the city had been saved from a major disaster, adding that action was being taken against the terrorist outfit.”
Pakistan Today: Three Terrorists Killed In Attack By ‘Accomplices’ In Swat
“Three terrorists, including two in-custody militants, were killed in an alleged shootout that took place in hills of Banjot area of Mangalwar in Swat on Tuesday, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Division confirmed. According to DIG Malakand Division Nasir Mahmood Satti, the CTD and local police were conducting a search operation in Banjot area where last month ( May 23) an exchange of fire between armed men and police occurred, killing one civilian Jamad Ali Khan while a police cop named Waqar Khan was injured in the firing. Yesterday on June 5, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Chief Akhtar Hayat Khan announced the Counter Terrorism Department had arrested militants, including a key militant commander Rafiullah and one of his facilitator Asmatullah belonging to TTP Swat group. Both the terrorists were also presented before local media. However on Tuesday, the DIG Malakand Division told to local media persons that the CTD along with local police personnel took the arrested militants – Rafiullah and Asmatullah to Banjot area in the light of information extorted from them
‘for recovery.’”

Reuters: Turkish Court Acquits Former Local Amnesty Head, Others Of Terrorism Charges
“A Turkish court on Tuesday acquitted the former local head of Amnesty International, Taner Kilic, and three other rights activists in a re-trial of a protracted case on terrorism charges, the rights group said. In 2020, Kilic, a former honorary chairman of Amnesty Turkey, was sentenced to more than six years in prison on charges of supporting U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Ankara blames for orchestrating an attempted coup in 2016. Three other rights activists were sentenced to two years and one month in jail for assisting a terrorist organisation. Those accused denied the charges. Turkey's top appeals court, The Court of Cassation, referred Kilic's case back to a first-instance court last year on the grounds of an ‘incomplete investigation’.”

“During the month of May 2023, US-led coalition forces and partner forces conducted 38 operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, resulting in the arrest of 31 ISIS operatives, and 8 ISIS suspects killed, US CENTCOM said on Tuesday. ‘Our partner forces continue to demonstrate the capability, capacity, and competence to maintain the enduring defeat of ISIS,’ said Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane, Commanding General of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, said in a press release. ‘The Coalition continues to Advise, Assist, and Enable our partners to keep pressure on ISIS and prevent them from re-establishing any type of network or effective military effort.’ In Iraq, 21 partnered operations were carried out in which 11 ISIS suspects were detained and 6 were killed. In Syria, 17 were carried out, in which 20 ISIS suspects were detained, and two were killed. ‘Despite their degraded capability, ISIS remains a significant threat within the region,’ General Kurilla said. ‘CENTCOM, along with our partners, is committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS.’”

AFP News: Nigerian Troops Killed In Jihadist Ambush On Convoy
“Several Nigerian soldiers died in an attack on a military convoy in the Lake Chad region by jihadist fighters aligned with the Islamic State group, security forces said Tuesday. The convoy was hit by militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) outside the northeastern village of Metele on Friday, leading to a battle where one jihadist was able to detonate a suicide vehicle amid the troops, the sources said. ‘We lost several men in the fierce battle with ISWAP terrorists from a vehicle-borne suicide attack,’ one of the sources told AFP. ‘I can't give a definite toll but the loss is substantial,’ he said. ISWAP on Sunday claimed responsibility for the ambush, which it said killed or wounded around 20 Nigerian soldiers, according to the SITE Intelligence group that monitors jihadist activities worldwide.”
Leadership: Troops Kill 11 ISWAP Terrorists, Destroy Camps In Sambisa Forest
“Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in collaboration with Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Hybrid forces have killed eleven suspected Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in an extreme intrusion into the insurgents enclaves in Sambisa forest in Borno state. The terrorists met their waterloo during the intelligence led sustained offensive which was conducted between May 31 and ended on June 4, 2023 in the terrorists hideouts within the axis of Damboa and Chibok Local Government Areas. Intelligence sources close to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, said that the troops stormed and cleared some of the terrorists’ hideouts in Bale, Tirke, Mandari, Molgoi, Bego, Yarwa, Ngurna. The sources said that some weapons, ammunition and other logistics were recovered during the joint military operations.”
