Friend,
In May of last year, 19 children and two teachers lost their lives in a horrific massacre at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, TX. The most deadly mass shooting our country had seen since Parkland, this tragedy galvanized my colleagues in Congress to finally come together and pass The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first gun safety package passed in decades.
Friend, I am proud of the role I played in passing this landmark legislation, but I knew then this was just a single step in addressing the gun violence crisis in our country. Day in and day out, there are new stories of preventable gun violence robbing families of their loved ones – and it’s because Congress has failed to take the swift, comprehensive action needed to put an end to this.
For years, I have been fighting alongside my Democratic colleagues to ban the purchase of the weapons of war that have been used in countless of these mass shootings. And being that our country already banned assault weapons in 1994 (that ban expired in 2004), this really shouldn’t be a controversial action. However, the corporate gun lobby has stood in the way of this common-sense reform time and time again.
It doesn’t have to be this way, friend. An integral part of the solution is right in front of us — we just need to act. Will you join me in calling on Congress to pass an assault weapons ban by signing on to the petition below? [[link removed]]

Preventable gun violence continues to bring immeasurable grief to communities across our country, but if we band together and refuse to become complacent, we can put an end to this nightmare.
Thank you for standing with me in the fight for our families and communities.
In solidarity,
Lori
