We are following the situation in Atlanta, where after 14 hours of speeches against Cop City, the City Council has voted to proceed with funding the police "training facility" on 83 acres of forest in a predominantly Black area. Those resisting approval say the facility, to be the largest police training site in the U.S. will militarize the police, and destroy significant green space.
3 members of the Atlanta Bail Fund, who has raised money to bail out dozens of people arrested in protests of Cop City, where one person was killed by police fire, were arrested themselves by a SWAT team on Sunday. In an op-ed published on MSNBC.com, Micah Herskind, an organizer, said, "The arrests of the Solidarity Fund organizers holds implications for
those working for justice across the country, whether for other bail
funds, abortion funds, travel funds for migrants or any other mutual aid
group that supports those who are criminalized or marginalized."
