Governor Kelly Announces More Than $11M Awarded for Transportation Projects

*GARDNER – *Governor Laura Kelly and Acting Secretary of Transportation Calvin Reed announced this afternoon that more than $11 million will be awarded to 14 transportation construction projects across Kansas. These investments are made possible through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program for spring 2023.

“With these projects, my administration is making investments that address short-term challenges to bring long-term solutions to communities,” *said Governor Kelly*. “The Cost Share program has been a success because of the partnerships we’ve built with local governments to make financial commitments alongside us.”

Governor Kelly made the announcement in the City of Gardner, where she lauded the South Center Trail as a prime example of how a Cost Share project can benefit a community. Enhancements to the city’s trail system will support safer and improved access to schools, health care, recreational amenities, and housing.

The Cost Share Program is designed to help rural and urban areas advance transportation projects to improve safety, support job retention and growth, relieve congestion, and improve access and mobility. The program was created as part of the Kelly administration’s 10-year, bipartisan Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program, or IKE.

With today’s announcement, Cost Share has resulted in the investment of more than $125 million in state funding since the program was founded in the fall of 2019. Almost 150 projects have been awarded across the state, with nearly an additional $100 million in matching local funds.

“We rely on local leaders to bring us their best ideas for projects that, with a little help, can make a significant difference in a community,” *Acting Secretary Reed said*. “Communities come to the table with a solid project plan, the support of local business and community members, and matching funds in place. State dollars help get the projects to the finish line.”
