Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
Celebrating Those Who Gave All to Safeguard our Freedoms
Since America's founding, brave men and women have stood in the gap and risked their lives to defend our nation and preserve our precious freedoms. It was a privilege to participate in the 15th Annual Memorial Day Tribute at the Lakeland Funeral Home & Gardens and join my fellow veterans at the Military Sea Services Museum to solemnly remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. As a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and a career Naval officer, I am honored to work on behalf of our servicemembers and Gold Star families who have sacrificed so much on our behalf.
Cutting Wasteful Spending & Averting Default
I came to Congress to cut spending, reduce government bureaucracy, strengthen our military, and make this institution function the way the Constitution intended. I also made a commitment to lead and govern responsibly. The Fiscal Responsibility Act was certainly not the bill I wanted. I believe our spending habits could have been cut and capped further, considering the Republican Limit, Save, Grow Act didn’t cut enough. But after weighing all the options and listening to all the arguments made by my Republican colleagues on both sides of the matter, I determined it would be irresponsible to walk away from the biggest spending cut in American history. This legislation cuts over $2.1 trillion in government spending over the next decade, while protecting Social Security, Medicare, Veterans, and Defense. Click here for more on why I voted yes.
From the U.S. Naval Academy to Serving Florida's 18th Congressional District
I recently sat down with Spectrum News' Jeff Butera for his InFocus Program to discuss how my careers as a Naval officer, business owner and civic leader prepared me to represent the people of Florida's 18th Congressional District. I am honored to serve you! Click here to watch our discussion.
