** John,
------------------------------------------------------------
Our oldest public forests are in danger, but you can help protect them ([link removed]) . Mature and old-growth forests protect us from climate change by absorbing and storing carbon from the atmosphere that otherwise contributes to the worsening climate crisis.
These forests also provide for ecosystem health, clean air and water, and safe haven for endangered wildlife. National forests are great places where we can hike, fish, and recreate. However, logging threatens our remaining mature and old-growth forests on public lands.
Fortunately, the Biden administration has opened the door to a potential solution – if we all act. They have introduced a pathway that could protect up to 112 million acres of mature and old-growth trees and forests on federal lands from logging – including in the Midwest. But even with that, several hundred thousand acres are at risk of being logged right now, even after the President called for them to be conserved.
The Forest Service is actively seeking public comments ([link removed]) . This allows us all to show our support for protecting these essential forests for future generations. We must ensure that the U.S. Forest Service protects mature and old-growth trees.
Tell the Biden Administration: Protect Mature & Old-Growth Forests ([link removed])
Please submit your comment before the June 20 deadline ([link removed]) , and encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to do the same. Together, let's ensure that these crucial climate-saving forests receive the protection they deserve.
Thank you.
