This year, nearly 500 anti-LGTBQ laws have been introduced across all
fifty states – more than at any point in U.S. history. If passed, the
Equality Act would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual
orientation, and gender identity and expand existing civil rights
protections for people of color.

This comes as conservatives are more emboldened than ever to target LGBTQ
rights: Conservative Supreme Court justices, Republican Presidential
candidates, and hundreds of down ballot Republicans are pledging to roll
back LGBTQ rights if elected.

Last December, President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act,
establishing federal protections for same-sex and interracial marriages
for the first time. With 92% of American voters believing it should be
illegal to fire someone based on their sexual orientation, it’s clear to
us this legislation is way overdue.
