It's not equal justice when a person arrested for having an ounce of pot is sitting in jail while corporations hold billions in profits from the sale of cannabis.
And it's not equal justice when black, brown, and low-income communities hold irreversible damage from the failed "war on drugs" that contributed to institutionalized racism and the criminal justice epidemic.
It's our moral obligation to ensure our communities have real opportunities to participate in a growing -- and profitable -- industry. That's why I've supported multiple bills to not only decriminalize cannabis, but also create economic opportunities for those disproportionately impacted by our outdated cannabis laws.
