Team,
First: We saw the troubling headline about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and how he accepted luxurious gifts and vacations from billionaire GOP donor Harlan Crow – who has personal interests before the Court.
Then: More news concerning the two broke. It was revealed that Thomas sold his properties in Georgia to Crow and didn’t disclose the sale, even though it was required by law for him to do so.
Now: I’m saying enough is enough. It’s high time Congress passed my judicial ethics legislation – The Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act to make sure our Supreme Court Justices are finally held to ethical guardrails. Can you chip in $5 right now and stand with me in the fight for ethics reform?
Right now, there’s nothing stopping our Justices from accepting gifts and vacations from people who have business before the Court. There’s not even a process to submit an ethics complaint.
My bill would change that. The SCERT Act would finally implement accountability at the Supreme Court so we know what special interests – like Crow – are clearly lobbying before the Court. We would be able to hold our Justices responsible for troubling ethics violations like these that just seem to keep coming.
I’m fighting to change the course of the Supreme Court, but I need your help. So please, can you contribute anything you can afford so I can continue my work in the Senate to get us out of this ethical crisis and restore public trust in SCOTUS?
Thank you,
Mark Warner
