John,
In Iowa yesterday, Ron DeSantis couldn’t be bothered to spend some time with a World War II Veteran. We thought that was interesting. Here’s why:
Three separate people — an attendee, a member of DeSantis’ staff, even the governor of Iowa — told DeSantis that the Veteran was there. All DeSantis could do was scrawl a signature on some scrap paper and give a nod and a wave in their direction.
There are precious few World War II Veterans left. Their generation fought to defeat authoritarians and fascists around the world, while defending our democratic values and freedom at home. Each of them is a treasure.
And when you really think about it, of course DeSantis couldn’t be bothered to spend a few minutes of his day honoring that Veteran.
He doesn’t believe in anything that generation fought for. And that’s why we have to do everything we can to beat him.

The only way to stop authoritarians like DeSantis is by fighting back. We know how to do it, and we’re proud to have you with us.
